Description
In this representation Buddha sits in the yoga position, the left hand pointing with the palm upward and it is in the womb. The right hand rests, with the palm inward on the knee.
The fingers are directed downwards and touch close to the ground. This posture symbolize the defeat of the demon Mara who wanted to lead Buddha into temptation with the promise of power and wealth.
The earth is called here as a witness that Buddha is not dissuaded from his right way and the victory over the demon Mara is actually the victory over himself.
