Description

The fingers are directed downwards and touch close to the ground. This posture symbolize the defeat of the demon Mara who wanted to lead Buddha into temptation with the promise of power and wealth.
The earth is called here as a witness that Buddha is not dissuaded from his right way and the victory over the demon Mara is actually the victory over himself.
